If you’re not a tech junkie then the term ‘podcast’ may sound a little strange. However, this is industry jargon for a rather novel and easy-to-use non-streamed webcast. It works on the very simple premise that a series of digital media files in your choice of video or audio (or both) are released on the web. Sports podcasts are particularly popular in that they are exciting commentaries compiled by sports professionals and sports stars. Once the sports commentator or sports expert has completed his or her podcast it then becomes available for download. Many times the podcasts of acclaimed sports pros are charged at premium rates ($9.99 and up is standard).

Downloading a podcast works somewhat differently to the conventional media files downloaded off the Net such as streamed webcasts or even direct downloads. The use of various client application software packages allows for quick and easy access to the podcasts. This is known as a podcatcher and it is used to access new files, Internet feeds, updates and other important details. The plus side of using these podcatchers is that automatic downloads can be instituted.  And storing the sports podcasts is a cinch – simply save them to the desktop as regular MP3 files or Ogg Vorbis files.
