Sports betting types
Go head-to-head as you predict one F1 racer’s positioning as opposed to another or enjoy flexible-rate bets where the odds are changing in real time. This is the domain of sports betting and it’s piping hot with lots of exciting options, big money payouts and combinations galore.
When it comes to sports betting, there are a myriad of ways to place wagers on your favourite team, player, event, competition or tournament. Not only are there simple win/lose bets, but there are proposition bets, parlays, progressive parlays, teasers, run lines, puck lines and goal line bets to name a few. Bookmakers cater to a wide variety of betting types, depending of course on which sport you’re punting on. Horse racing for example has all manner of bets in: straight bets, single bets or win bets, place bets, combination bets, show bets, pick 6, Quiniela, daily double, exactas, trifectas, exotic bets, future bets, jackpot bets and many more. But by far the most interesting bets – and the ones that pay out significantly more – are the more complex bets. To this end, there are a great many varieties including the following:
- Parlays - These involve multiple bets – sometimes as many as 12 – and reward punters with massive paydays. So if a punter places four different bets on a four-team parlay and all four bets come in, then he/she wins at a rate of 10-1. If on the other hand the punter loses one bet – he/she loses the parlay.
- Goal Line, Run Line and Puck Line Bets - These are alternative betting options to straight-up/moneyline prices in soccer, baseball and hockey respectively. Note that all these bets have a fixed point spread which invariably provides a higher payday for favorites and a low payday for the underdog.
- Progressive Parlays - Progressive parlays involve multiple bets – typically up to 12 – and they reward successful punters with a big payout. Note however that these paydays are not as large as parlays. The main difference here however is that progressive parlays allow for some of the bets to lose while still providing a reduced payday.
- Proposition bets – For punters wanting to bet on specific outcomes, these are the bets to make. Such betting types include correctly predicting numbers of goals scored, or which particular player will score a goal, or even which team member will hit more runs than his opposing number.
- Teasers – As its name suggests, a teaser offers a bettor a taste of victory by combining the bets for 2 different games. While the payday is lower, and the point spreads are adjusted, it does provide an attractive betting option.
As sports betting is a thriving industry across the globe, with millions of punters taking part, there are a great many other types of bets to enjoy. These include future wagers, head-to-heads and totalizers.
